Map
of the walk to Southern Rockhole in Nitmiluk or let's say 4
klm walking track form the Nitmiluk Visitors Information Centre
(some old locals refer still as Katherine Gorge Visitors Information
Centre but there are 13 gorges and many water falls so Nimitulk
makes more sense to me and I'm a local since 1988.
You may ask - how many gorges in Nitmiluk or your may say how many
gorges in Katherine Gorge: Nitmiluk has 13 gorges carved from the
ancient sandstone country. Nitmiluk Katherine Gorgeapart from being
made up of thirteen gorges, with rapids and falls. Its a a body
of water that starts in Kakadu National Park before making its way
down to Nitmiluk National Park.
Southern Rockhole blog: We found two steep points,
one is towards the start to get over the rock escarpment and the
other when you walk back out of the valley from the Southern Rockhole
end. Smaller streams of pristine cystral clear water seem to crisscross
our path to the Southern Rockhole in Nitmiluk. Rock hoping was need
on many occassions like also experienced back on the Jim Jim plunge
pool walk. The best was hearing the sounds of the falls in the near
distance and then coming into view it was so memorable a 1000 instagrams
could capture a photo of what we saw. So our suggestion start early
and spend a full day and simiply enjoy outback Northern territory
at it's best.
Where is Windolf Walk
Also a quiet popular walk simiply because it's a much shorter walk.
The Windolf Walk takes you to more pictureque view viewing lookout
called Pat's Lookout. After theis you can go back or continue on
to the Southern Rockhole so make sure you get your make at the Nitmiluk
Centre and proper hiking and walking advise before you leave the
Nitmiluk Tourist Information Centre.
